"Celebration in Song" Concert Helps Fuel Fight Against Hunger

WHY (World Hunger Year) and The Harry Chapin Memorial Run Against Hunger teamed up October 17th to present "Harry Chapin: A Celebration in Song," a benefit concert to fight hunger, starring The Chapin Family & Friends.

The concert featured Abigail Chapin, David Chapin, Jen Chapin, Jim Chapin, Jonathan Chapin, Lily Chapin, Steve Chapin, Tom Chapin, Chris Cheek, Jon Cobert, Jessica Craven, Howard Fields, Jamie Fox, Michael Mark, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels, Clark Wallace and John Wallace.

All of the performers and producers donated their time and talents for the concert, and dozens of other people volunteered their time and services.

Also, former students from the Gilman school in Baltimore, Maryland provided hand-painted five-foot by five-foot oil canvas portraits representing their own interpretations of Harry's album covers "Verities and Balderdash," "Portrait Gallery," and "Sniper and Other Love Songs." Their teacher, Dan Christian, transported the paintings to the show and coordinated a generous donation to the cause as a result of the sales of the paintings.

The concert, pre-concert dinner, and associated donations raised more than $30,000 in net proceeds to fight hunger in the U.S. and around the world.
